An NFL broadcasting rarity

Tomorrow, Fox has the doubleheader but is still sending its #1 team of Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, and Erin Andrews to a 1 ET game: Vikings at Packers.

Meanwhile, CBS has the singleheader but is still sending its #1 team of Jim Nantz, Phil Simms, and Tracy Woodson to a 4:05 game: Colts at Raiders.

Neither of these are usual since the singleheader network usually sends its #1 team to a 1 ET game, so as not to be overshadowed by the doubleheader network's 4:25 game, and the doubleheader network usually sends its #1 team to a 4:25 game since that is usually the highest rated timeslot of the day.

In fact, this is so rare that it is the first time in 12 years that this combination (singleheader #1 team at 4:05 and doubleheader #1 team at 1 ET) has occurred.

In 2004 Week 14, Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, and Pam Oliver went to Seahawks at Vikings at 1 ET on a Fox doubleheader week, and Jim Nantz, Phil Simms, and Bonnie Bernstein went to Jets at Steelers at 4:05 ET.

---

Why this week, after 12 years, did this happen? Most likely due to Christmas Eve, which is the rare NFL day when the 1 ET slot is expected to outrate 4:25 due to the holiday in the evening.

In fact, I'm surprised Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, and Pam Oliver went to Cowboys at Eagles (4:25) rather than Giants at Jets (1:00) on Christmas Eve 2011, especially when a Giants victory would mean Eagles elimination before they played, which ended up happening.
