AFC #LETME Week 4

Least Exciting To Most Exciting.

8. Miami vs. Oakland in London (6 BST, 1 EDT, CBS: Ian Eagle, Dan Fouts, and Jenny Dell) Sunset at 6:46.
It's certainly a great way to entice London fans by giving them a boring game. Dolphins 16, Raiders 9

7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Pittsburgh Steelers (1 ET, Fox: Thom Brennaman, David Diehl, and Laura Okmin)
If the Steelers play the way they played at Carolina... Steelers 51, Buccaneers 6

6. Tennessee Titans at Indianapolis Colts (1 ET, CBS: Kevin Harlan and Rich Gannon)
After finally getting a win under their belts, the Colts will continue to roll. Colts 34, Titans 10

5. Jacksonville Jaguars at San Diego Chargers (1:05 PT, 4:05 ET, CBS: Andrew Catalon, Steve Tasker, and Steve Beuerlein)
The Chargers barely lost that Week 1 Monday nighter, or else they would be undefeated, and they've beaten two elite teams. Chargers 38, Jaguars 12

4. Detroit Lions at New York Jets (1 ET, Fox: Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston, and Tony Siragusa)
Playing 3 interconference (and therefore unfamiliar) opponents consecutively is tough, which is why the Jets will go 0-3 in those games. Lions 20, Jets 10

3. Carolina Panthers at Baltimore Ravens (1 ET, CBS: Greg Gumbel, Trent Green, and Evan Washburn)
The Panthers had better not play as they did against the Steelers if they want to win this game on the road. Panthers 24, Ravens 17

2. Buffalo Bills at Houston Texans (noon CT, 1 ET, CBS: Spero Dedes and Solomon Wilcots)
One of these two teams will be 3-1 unless they tie. Bills 40, Texans 38

1. New England Patriots at Kansas City Chiefs (Monday: 7:30 CT, 8:30 ET, ESPN: Mike Tirico, Jon Gruden, and Lisa Salters) Sunset at 7:06.
Chiefs fans hope they're not watching this game, and are instead watching a Royals one-game playoff against the Tigers tomorrow night. Chiefs 20, Patriots 17

Thursday, September 25, 2014

NFC #LETME Week 4

Least Exciting To Most Exciting.

5. Atlanta Falcons at Minnesota Vikings (3:25 CT, 4:25 ET, Fox: Chris Myers, Ronde Barber, and Jennifer Hale) Sunset at 6:59.
The Vikings have only beaten the Rams, who started Shaun Hill. Falcons 38, Vikings 10

4. New Orleans Saints at Dallas Cowboys (7:30 CT, 8:30 ET, NBC: Al Michaels, Cris Collinsworth, and Michele Tafoya) Sunset at 7:17.
The Cowboys had to come back to beat the Rams. They'll have little to no chance against the Saints if they play the same way. Saints 24, Cowboys 20

3. New York Giants at Washington Redskins (8:25 ET Thursday, CBS, NFL Network: Jim Nantz, Phil Simms, and Tracy Wolfson) Sunset at 6:55.
Kirk Cousins is a better quarterback than RGIII. Redskins 28, Giants 14

2. Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears (noon CT, 1 ET, Fox: Kevin Burkhardt, John Lynch, and Pam Oliver)
the showdown, during which the Packers might fall to 1-3
Bears 21, Packers 13

1. Philadelphia Eagles at San Francisco 49ers (1:25 PT, 4:25 ET, Fox: Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, and Erin Andrews)
the showdown, during which the Niners might fall to 1-3 Eagles 38, 49ers 33

Sunday, September 21, 2014

AFC #LETME Week 3

Least Exciting To Most Exciting.

7. Tennessee Titans at Cincinnati Bengals (1 ET, CBS: Brad Johansen and Chris Simms)
Bengals 30, Titans 17

6. Oakland Raiders at New England Patriots (1 ET, CBS: Greg Gumbel, Trent Green, and Evan Washburn)
The Raiders lost to the Texans last week. The Texans! Patriots 41, Raiders 17

5. Baltimore Ravens at Cleveland Browns (1 ET, CBS: Spero Dedes and Solomon Wilcots)
The Browns beat the Saints last week. The Saints! Browns 26, Ravens 24

4. Indianapolis Colts at Jacksonville Jaguars (1 ET, CBS: Tom McCarthy and Adam Archuleta)
Could the Colts end up 0-3? Nope Colts 31, Jaguars 19

3. Kansas City Chiefs at Miami Dolphins (4:25 ET, CBS: Kevin Harlan and Rich Gannon) Sunset at 7:18.
Could the Chiefs end up 0-3? Yep Dolphins 20, Chiefs 13

2. Chicago Bears at New York Jets (8:30 ET Monday, ESPN: Mike Tirico, Jon Gruden, and Lisa Salters)
If Marty Mornhinweg hadn't called the timeout, the Jets may have well beaten the Packers last week. Bears 24, Jets 20

1. San Diego Chargers at Buffalo Bills (1 ET, CBS: Andrew Catalon, Steve Tasker, and Steve Beuerlein)
I can't even decide what I think about this game. It's a toss-up. It should be a great one.

Thursday, September 18, 2014

NFC #LETME Week 3

Least Exciting To Most Exciting.

9. Dallas Cowboys at St. Louis Rams (noon CT, 1 ET, Fox: Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston, and Tony Siragusa)
Maybe the Rams' third-string quarterback will be able to bring home another victory. Cowboys 25, Rams 18

8. Houston Texans at New York Giants (1 ET, CBS: Ian Eagle, Dan Fouts, and Jenny Dell)
The Texans have had two surprisingly large victories while the Giants have suffered two not-so-surprising losses, Eli Manning still hasn't learned Ben McAdoo's offense, and Eli is nowhere near 75% comp pct. Texans 38, Giants 13

7. Minnesota Vikings at New Orleans Saints (noon CT, 1 ET, Fox: Chris Myers, Ronde Barber, and Jennifer Hale)
The Vikings only beat a team with a backup quarterback in Week 1, and looked horrible against the Patriots last week at TCF Bank Stadium. The Saints may be 0-2 but have only played on the road. Saints 28, Vikings 14

6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Atlanta Falcons (8:25 ET Thursday, CBS, NFL Network: Jim Nantz, Phil Simms, and Tracy Wolfson) Sunset at 7:40.
Last week, the Bucs lost to a team starting their third-string quarterback, who the previous week had been beaten by a weak team who later got blown out by the Pats. Falcons 41, Buccaneers 20

5. Washington Redskins at Philadelphia Eagles (1 ET, Fox: Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, and Erin Andrews)
Fox continues to use Joe Buck and Troy Aikman on NFC East games, even when they're not commentating a Cowboys game. I believe there are two more exciting matchups on Fox's schedule Sunday, and they are not putting this commentary team on those games. Eagles 33, Redskins 30

4. Green Bay Packers at Detroit Lions (1 ET, Fox: Kevin Burkhardt, John Lynch, and Pam Oliver)
Perhaps Fox gave the more exciting game to the #2 commentary team since it includes Pam Oliver, the #1 sideline reporter. Lions 27, Packers 24 (OT)

3. Pittsburgh Steelers at Carolina Panthers (8:30 ET, NBC: Al Michaels, Cris Collinsworth, and Michele Tafoya) Sunset at 7:22.
Cam Newton looks back up to speed after last week's performance! Panthers 20, Steelers 17

2. San Francisco 49ers at Arizona Cardinals (1:05 MST, 4:05 EDT, Fox: Thom Brennaman, David Diehl, and Laura Okmin)
The Cardinals (along with the Texans, Bills, Broncos, Bengals, Eagles, and Panthers!) are on top the division by themselves. Cardinals 12, 49ers 7

1. Denver Broncos at Seattle Seahawks (1:25 PT, 4:25 ET, CBS: Jim Nantz, Phil Simms, and Tracy Wolfson) Broncos 14, Seahawks 13

Sunday, September 14, 2014

NFC #LETME Week 2

Week 1: 14-2

Least Exciting To Most Exciting.

7. Jacksonville Jaguars at Washington Redskins (1 ET, CBS: Spero Dedes and Solomon Wilcots)
One of these two teams will be 0-2 after this game unless the teams tie, which shouldn't come as a surprise, but the Redskins will win the division regardless of what happens, because they're playing the Cowboys in Week 17. Redskins 17, Jaguars 14

6. St. Louis Rams at Tampa Bay Bucccaneers (4:05 ET, Fox: Dick Stockton, Kirk Morrison, and Kristina Pink) Sunset at 7:36.
Who knows who'll be starting at quarterback for the Rams? Buccaneers 20, Rams 3

5. Arizona Cardinals at New York Giants (1 ET, Fox; Kevin Burkhardt, John Lynch, and Pam Oliver)
From Monday night's showing, Eli Manning has clearly not mastered new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo's offense. The Cardinals barely escaped after making the mistake of going for two early in the fourth quarter (Had they kicked the extra point on both touchdowns, they would have been up by three rather than one.). Either way, I'm certain they're the better team today. Since both teams played on Monday, there is no disadvantage for either of playing only 6 days later. Cardinals 21, Giants 10

4. New England Patriots at Minnesota Vikings (noon CT, 1 ET, CBS: Ian Eagle, Dan Fouts, and Jenny Dell)
Without Adrian Peterson, Cordarrelle Patterson will go off!! Vikings 30, Patriots 20

3. Detroit Lions at Carolina Panthers (1 ET, Fox: Chris Myers, Ronde Barber, and Jennifer Hale)
Cam Newton appears ready to play football!! Panthers 23, Lions 20

2. New York Jets at Green Bay Packers (3:25 CT, 4:25 ET, CBS: Greg Gumbel, Trent Green, and Evan Washburn) Sunset at 7:05.
The last time the Jets played at Lambeau 8 years ago, Akbar Gbaja-Biamila was still on the Packers. Jets 26, Packers 23

1. Chicago Bears at San Francisco 49ers (5:30 PT, 8:30 ET, NBC: Al Michaels, Cris Collinsworth, and Michele Tafoya) Sunset at 7:17.
If the Bears struggled with the Bills, how will they win at the grand opening of the 49ers' new field of jeans? 49ers 34, Bears 31

Thursday, September 11, 2014

AFC #LETME Week 2

Least Exciting To Most Exciting.

9. Dallas Cowboys at Tennessee Titans (noon CT, 1 ET, Fox: Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, and Erin Andrews)
Fox's number one team is being used on this game probably only because Troy Aikman is a former Cowboy, especially when Fox has later in the day the titanic clash between the Seahawks and Chargers. Titans 20, Cowboys 10

8. New Orleans Saints at Cleveland Browns (1 ET, Fox: Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston, and Tony Siragusa)
If the Browns play against the Saints the way they did in the second half against the Steelers, but this time for the entire game, the Saints could suddenly find themselves in an 0-2 hole, with strike three only one pitch away. Saints 38, Browns 21

7. Houston Texans at Oakland Raiders (1:25 PT, 4:25 ET, CBS: Andrew Catalon, Steve Tasker, and Steve Beuerlein)
Last week, Derek Carr was the only rookie QB to get the Week 1 start, and this week he'll be facing the original team of his older brother, who somehow now has a Super Bowl ring. Texans 21, Raiders 14

6. Atlanta Falcons at Cincinnati Bengals (1 ET, CBS: Kevin Harlan and Rich Gannon)
Both teams looked great in Week 1, with the Falcons playing in the most-exciting Sunday game to an unbiased observer. Falcons 33, Bengals 30

5. Miami Dolphins at Buffalo Bills (1 ET, CBS: Tom McCarthy and Adam Archuleta)
These are definitely the two teams who have the best chance of stealing the division away from the Pats this year. If the Dolphins win this game, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they go on to win 4 of 5 games before their first loss. Dolphins 30, Bills 20

4. Philadelphia Eagles at Indianapolis Colts (8:40 ET Monday, ESPN: Mike Tirico, Jon Gruden, and Lisa Salters) Sunset at 7:53.
Can the Colts recover from their drubbing by the Broncos? They might have an easier time if the Eagles play the first half the way they did against the Jaguars, not requiring the Colts to make the 4th-qtr comeback they had to against the Broncos. Eagles 38, Colts 24

3. Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos (2:25 MT, 4:25 ET, CBS: Jim Nantz, Phil Simms, and Tracy Wolfson)
The Chiefs were 9-0 last year before losing twice to the Broncos in a 3-week span. This year, they've already lost their first game, to the Tennessee Titans. Broncos 34, Chiefs 31

2. Pittsburgh Steelers at Baltimore Ravens (8:25 ET Thursday, CBS, NFL Network: Jim Nantz, Phil Simms, and Tracy Wolfson) Sunset at 7:16.
The Steelers survived a scare from the Browns last week by getting their first points of the second half with no time remaining in the fourth quarter. The Ravens did not at all look good, and Joe Flacco is currently not elite. Steelers 9, Ravens 6

1. Seattle Seahawks at San Diego Chargers (1:05 PT, 4:05 ET, Fox: Thom Brennaman, David Diehl, and Laura Okmin)
While the Chargers' squandering away the game Monday night was pretty bad, the Seahawks aren't the same team on the road as they are at home: In Russell Wilson's first two seasons, he was 15-1 at home and only 9-7 on the road. Seahawks 41, Chargers 38

STAT OF THE NIGHT

The longest US Open gentlemen's singles final ever lasted 4 hours and 54 minutes (1988, 2012).

Sunday, September 7, 2014

US Open Day 14 TV Schedule

Ladies' Singles Final: (1)S. Williams/(10)Wozniacki (4:15 ET, CBS)

AFC #LETME Week 1

Least Exciting To Most Exciting:

7. Washington Redskins at Houston Texans (noon CT, 1 ET, Fox: Thom Brennaman, David Diehl, and Laura Okmin)
The two worst teams from last year face off. Texans 20, Redskins 13

6. Oakland Raiders at New York Jets (1 ET, CBS: Jim Nantz, Phil Simms, and Tracy Wolfson)
Why is CBS's number one commentator team doing this game? Who knows? Maybe to avoid Jim Nantz's Patriots bias that is so prevalent when he does a Patriots game? Jets 24, Raiders 17

5. Tennessee Titans at Kansas City Chiefs (noon CT, 1 ET, CBS: Kevin Harlan and Rich Gannon)
The underrated Chiefs get Jamaal Charles back from his playoff game injury and have a healthy defense as well. Don't forget, too, about Arrowhead's loudness, almost on par with CenturyLink Field. Chiefs 40, Titans 13

4. Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens (1 ET, CBS: Spero Dedes and Solomon Wilcots)
These two teams faced off in Week 17 of last year with the Ravens controlling their own playoff destiny and failing to convert. After a third straight lost playoff game, the Bengals look to regroup, with all three other teams in the division knocking on the door in what is the tightest division in football. Ravens 23, Bengals 20

3. Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers (1 ET, CBS: Ian Eagle, Dan Fouts, and Jenny Dell)
These two teams in the AFC North are surprisingly more likely to win the division than the previous two. I expect Johnny Manziel to be starting in a few weeks, but for now: Steelers 27, Browns 13

2. New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins (1 ET, CBS: Greg Gumbel, Trent Green, and Evan Washburn)
The last time the Patriots were in Miami, Tom Brady threw a game-losing INT in the end zone late in the 4th quarter. Dolphins 21, Patriots 20

1. Indianapolis Colts at Denver Broncos (6:30 MT, 8:30 ET, NBC: Al Michaels, Cris Collinsworth, and Michele Tafoya) Sunset at 7:21.
Last year, the Colts handed the Broncos their first loss of the season in Peyton's homecoming, but this time the game's at Mile High. Broncos 45, Colts 37

NFC #LETME Week 1

Each week, I'll rank the games from Least Exciting To Most Exciting. #LETME

9. Minnesota Vikings at St. Louis Rams (noon CT, 1 ET, Fox: Dick Stockton, Kirk Morrison, and Kristina Pink)
Veteran Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel hasn't ever gotten back to how good he was in his 11-5 year replacing Tom Brady in 2008, but without Sam Bradford in front of him, Shaun Hill will have to be just as good as Cassel was in '08 for the Rams to have any chance to succeed. Vikings 20, Rams 10

8. Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4:25 ET, Fox: Chris Myers, Ronde Barber, and Jennifer Hale) Sunset at 7:44.
While Cam Newton doesn't have a single wide receiver on his roster who has ever caught a regular season pass from him, Lovie Smith's defensive system will take more than one week of regular season play for Tampa to begin to dominate with it. Panthers 24, Buccaneers 17

7. Jacksonville Jaguars at Philadelphia Eagles (1 ET, CBS: Andrew Catalon, Steve Tasker, and Steve Beuerlein)
Chip Kelly's high-flying offense should have no trouble dominating the Jaguars, who honestly should be starting Blake Bortles at quarterback. On the other hand however, no team has won the NFC East in back-to-back seasons since the Eagles did it from 2001-4, but I believe Chip Kelly will return the Eagles back to the top of the division and break this trend. Eagles 40, Jaguars 11

6. New Orleans Saints at Atlanta Falcons (1 ET, Fox: Kevin Burkhardt, John Lynch, and Pam Oliver)
Last season, the Falcons had their first losing season under Mike Smith, but if Julio Jones can stay healthy this year, they'll get back to being a competitor. Also important to note is that the NFC South has never been won by the same team two years in a row, so most likely the winner of the division this year will come out of this game. Falcons 18, Saints 17

5. Buffalo Bills at Chicago Bears (noon CT, 1 ET, Fox: Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston, and Tony Siragusa)
If Sammy Watkins is healthy enough to start in this game, he could rip the Bears' defense to shreds. The Bills' defense is an up and coming bunch, good even without Kiko Alonso. Bills 13, Bears 9

4. San Francisco 49ers at Dallas Cowboys (3:25 CT, 4:25 ET, Fox: Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, and Erin Andrews)
Until the Cowboys succeed, I will never believe they can win the big games. For now, 49ers 31, Cowboys 30

3. New York Giants at Detroit Lions (Monday 7:10 ET, ESPN: Chris Berman and Trent Dilfer) Sunset at 7:54.
The Lions led their division for more than half the season last year, until their late season collapse concluding with the loss to the Giants. Don't think they've forgotten that, and expect them to come out looking for revenge. Lions 38, Giants 21

2. Green Bay Packers at Seattle Seahawks (Thursday 5:30 PT, 8:30 ET, NBC: Al Michaels, Cris Collinsworth, and Michele Tafoya) Sunset at 7:44.
In the first meeting since the Fail Mary game, the Packers will get thrashed. Seahawks 24, Packers 13

1. San Diego Chargers at Arizona Cardinals (Monday 7:25 MST, 10:25 EDT, ESPN: Mike Tirico, Jon Gruden, and Lisa Salters) Sunset at 6:45.
In a matchup of the third place teams from the best two divisions in football last year, both teams will have a tough time winning the division but both are definite contenders for the wild card spots, and could certainly make title runs. Cardinals 45, Chargers 41
